Walking according to the Spirit

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit”, says the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Galatians.

Pope Francis also encourages us to let ourselves be led by the Spirit.

“To walk by the Spirit, to be led by Him, are expressions that indicate an action, a movement, a dynamism that prevents us from stopping at the first

difficulties, but elicits confidence in the power coming from above. Walking along this path, the Christian acquires a positive vision of life. This does not mean that the evil present in the world disappears, but believe that God is always stronger than our resistance and greater than our sins. Journeying along the way of the Spirit requires giving space to grace and charity. Not being afraid. On this subject, Paul invites the Galatians to bear each other’s difficulties, and if someone should make a mistake, to use gentleness. Cf. Galatians 5: 22. Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. Cf. Galatians 6:1-2”.

To learn to let oneself be guided by the Spirit of Jesus, Eugénie Caps gave this advice to her friend Catherine Frentz,

“Keep on going with confidence, calmness and peace in front of the Lord. Let him guide your boat, He will bring it back to the harbour. If you knew by which ways He led me through! How He taught me to throw myself into His Arms and there it is rest”. Cf. Letters of Sister Eugénie Caps to Catherine Frentz, Spiritan Collection N°2, page 28.

Lord, grant me the grace to walk by your Spirit. May we watch over each of our sisters and brothers with gentleness, kindness and benevolence.
