For Sister Eugénie Caps, the missionary vocation of the Spiritan Sister, placed under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and the protection of the Virgin Mary, can only lead to the total abandonment of her life to God, to a will to strive towards perfection, even holiness. And only an intense inner life can help us to maintain this spirit of abandonment.
The notion of supernatural life that we encounter in the writings of Sister Eugénie Caps summarizes the vocation of a missionary sister, which is to live supernaturally in the presence of God, as she expresses it in her Journal: ‘‘I practice living always in the presence of God, even during my work, because the life of a missionary Sister is to live supernaturally. I can give good only if I have good in me. So, I must develop in myself my own life, that is to say, what the good God has intended me. Develop in me the supernatural life and live united to Our Lord, the only necessary’’. Cf. Diary of Sister Eugénie Caps, on 4th November 1923.
Our Constitutions define this supernatural by recalling the importance of moments of solitude and spiritual pause that open to contemplation, to adoration of the mystery of God and His action among men. Cf. Our Spiritan Life, n°35.
Prayer: Through the intercession of Sister Eugénie Caps, give us, Lord, to live always in intimacy with you and to know how to give the best of ourselves, out of love for You and for the good of our brothers and sisters.
